Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Jacob Martz (T3c)
Jacob was mentioned in his father’s will as a younger son. His two older brothers were tick marks in the 1790 Census but Jacob was not yet born. He is designated T3c.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Jacob Martz (T3c)
Like his brothers, I cannot find any member of this family in 1820.

Jacob first appeared in Census in 1830 in Washington County, MD and was also there in 1840 but then was listed in 1850 (and 1860) in Frederick, MD. This family seemed to move back and forth.

I believe his age was mis-reported — by about 10 years — in the 1850 Census.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Jacob Martz (T3c)
Jacob Martz Sr. is on find-a-grave. His wife is linked to him and they are linked to twelve children. Curiously, his name is given as Jacob Daniel Martz, Sr. on find-a-grave. I’ve never seen that middle name for him any place else. There is a photo of his tombstone on find-a-grave but it is not readable. Jacob named his oldest son Jacob (and he is listed as Jacob Mertz, Jr. on find-a-grave) and his next son Daniel.

I also find it curious that when I last researched this family in 2016, I made no note of his find-a-grave name being Jacob Daniel, so I sort of think it has been added to his memorial since then and it may have been added in error.

His wife was Elizabeth Durnbaugh, according to her find-a-grave memorial.
Known Sons notes for Jacob Martz (T3c)
His memorial on find-a-grave lists Jacob 1818-1894, Daniel 1820-1894, David H 1824-
1890, John N 1827-1875, Elias C 1832-1924, Peter 1833-1901, Simon Peter 1833-1901 and Andrew J 1835-1907 as his sons. However, I believe there is some confusion here and Simon Peter and Peter are one and the same.

In 1850, living with Jacob were just three of these sons: Jacob 24, Simon P 18 and Andrew J 15. Jacob born 1818 was no doubt Jacob age 24, I have already observed the serious age mistake in the 1850 listing for Jacob, Sr. Simon P was obviously Simon Peter.

David was already married and head of household himself, so he’s accounted for. So where was Daniel, where was Elias C and where was John N?

There was a Daniel Mertz living in Woodsboro, Frederick County but he was of the John George Mertz family, I am quite sure.

There was a John Martz age 24 living in Middletown with Daniel and Matilda Ahalt who could be Jacob’s son John N. It makes we wonder whether Daniel Ahalt was really Daniel Martz in disguise but I can convince myself Ahalt was indeed a name of the Middletown area so I am not really going to posit that idea.

And I have no idea where Elias C was.

I can pretty much account for all of the sons, though, including Daniel, after 1850, so I am listing Jacob’s sons as:

T3c1 Jacob born 1818
T3c2 Daniel born 1820
T3c3 David H born 1824
T3c4 John N born 1827
T3c5 Simon Peter born 1833
T3c6 Andrew J born 1835
T3c7 Elias born 1832.

Obviously Elias is out of order here. It is because I became aware of him last and I don’t consider it 100% proven he really was Jacob’s son, though I have no better idea who his father may have been. But it takes some work to change people’s designation codes and make sure I get things right in every place where they may be listed, so I’m holding off doing so until more evidence becomes available.
