Parent-Proof notes for Anna Bomberger
Anna Bomberger was his first wife. She died in 1868 and he married second Barbara Anna Witmer 11 Jan 1871.
Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Elias C (Spouse 1)
I am adding Elias as a son of Jacob but I don’t believe it proven. On the other hand, I have no better idea who his father might be.
The evidence that he was the son of Jacob is that he is linked to Jacob and Elizabeth as his parents on find-a-grave. Sometimes, people are erroneously linked on find-a-grave so that is not proof, but it is, as I say, evidence.
What gives me a little pause is the fact that I cannot find him in the 1850 Census when he was 18 years old. If I found him with his parents, then I would have little doubt about things. If I found him in someone else’s household, I’d have a lot of doubt. But that’s the thing — he’s nowhere to be found.
When he registered for the Civil War draft, he was listed as living in Boonsboro which is another fact that gives me a little pause. The Martz family of Boonsboro was the family of Jacob’s brother John. Now Boonsboro is also in Washington County, so that is not conclusive either.
If Elias was Jacob’s son, then he should be designated T3c5 and his bother Simon Peter should be T3c6 and his bother Andrew J T3c7 — but I am not going to sort these brothers into that order until I get more evidence that Elias was Jacobs’ son.
For now, Jacob is designated T3c7 as if he was Jacob’s youngest son, which he was not.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Elias C (Spouse 1)
Elias, his second wife Barbara, her parents and Elias’ son Shelby are all buried in Hagerstown and all linked together on find-a-grave. But his first wife, Anna, is buried at the Mt Zion Mennonite Cemetery where Elias’ parents — if they were his parents — are also buried.
