Research notes for Joseph Tobias
Ancestry DNA Thrulines posits that John and Maria Magdalena (Ketner) Tobias were my ancestors because they were the parents of Maria Tobias who married Henry Yerger who heretofore I knew only as Maria.
There is a lot of evidence of this possible relationship, Henry and Maria started out in Berks County where John Tobias lived. When John died, a petition to the OC named his heirs including Maria married to Henry Yerger. There are no discordant notes.
But Ancestry is basing their suggestion on DNA.

There is a person who has identified herself to Ancestry as ltobias12 (but her tree is in the name of Lacey Tobias). Lacey and I share a certain segment of DNA sufficient for the DNA science to say we are about 5th-8th cousins.
Lacey tree is not as complete as PT’s on Ancestry. There is one other surname in her tree — Kramer — that you might think could be our link but I don’t see an obvious linkage.
So let’s consider Lacey’s Tobias ancestry. Her grandfather was Earl William Tobias (1927-1968) who died in Schuylikill County, PA. He was the 3-year-old boy in the William E and Minnie Tobias household in Pinegrove, Schuylkill County in 1930.
William E (1892-1949), according to his PA DC, died in North Manheim, Schuylkill County and was the son of Joseph Tobias and Sara Hertzog.
Joseph Tobias (1864-1933), according to his PA DC, died in Blair County, PA and was the son of William Tobias and Harriett Mullen. Lacey’s tree goes no further back than Joseph (meaning I guess that Ancestry found him in some other tree and continued the supposed lineage). When Joseph married in Pinegrove her said his father was William.
William (age 39, 1831) and Harriett Tobias are in the 1870 Census in Pinegrove with 6-year-old son Joseph.
Joseph Tobias (age 50, 1800) lived in Wayne Township, Schuylkill County with son William age 19. I believe him to be the son Joseph named as a minor son of John Tobias in the OC petition filed after John’s death.
