We know John had a son John from his presence with his father in 1850 and 1860. The problem is there were several John Martz born into one branch or another of the Rockingham families in the late 1840’s.

It is possible the John who continued to live in Rockingham and whose wife was Josephine or Sarah A J was a different John, but I believe it is this one and I have designated him S1d3.

I have tracked John through Census. His wife was Josephine in 1870, Sarah A J in 1880, Sarah A J in 1900 and then Josephine again in 1910.

John M is on find-a-grave, as is Josephine. There is no date of death there for John. My hunch is he died after Josephine and they carved his name and birth year on their shared tombstone and no one ever had his year of death carved on it when he later died,
