It is interesting to me that this name started out perhaps as March, evolved to Martz and Marts but eventually this Jacob and a few others in his family evolved to Mertz.
In a lot of the lines I have researched, the name started out in America as Mertz and then quite often evolved, when someone moved to a new area, to Martz — but I know of no other families where Martz then later evolved back to Mertz.
