We know Cornelius as John’s son since he lived with his father in 1850. He is designated T3b1.
Interestingly, in this family that started out Martz, evolved to Marts in Franklin County, PA, it becomes Mertz for Cornelius in the 1880 Census and on his tombstone and at times for his parents.

He continued to live in Boonsboro where his father had moved by 1840. In 1850, his wife was Eliza and they had several very young children. By 1860, his wife was Charlotte and none of the children appear to still be present in his household. But an older Nancy Smith was present in both 1850 and 1860, tying the two decades together.
