I know nothing more about Mary E Briggs. On both her marriage license application and later that of her son, her name was given as Mame, but in Census her name was consistently Mary E. When she married she was a minor and so J K Briggs had to give permission -- my guess would be that was her father, but I can get no further on her pedigree. There was a Remphrey family reunion in 1937 and Mame Remphrey was the oldest person in attendance.

William was born in England, came to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his parents and siblings in about 1875 and then found his way to Wilkes-Barre by 4 May 1889, his marriage date. His occupation was miner in 1880 in Michigan, farmer in 1900 in Wilkes-Barre and then miner again in 1910 in Wilkes-Barre.
