Relocated notes for Johann Conrad (Spouse 1)
IMMIGRANT. Strassburger records the arrival of Philip Conrath Aumiller on the ship Edinburgh 13 Aug 1750, Johann George Aumiller on the ship Anderson 25 Aug 1751 and then Canrath and Johannes Aumiller on the ship Good Intent on 23 Oct 1754. This was probably a father and his three sons, but who was who?
Research notes for Johann Conrad (Spouse 1)
From Aumiller message board: “I am a decendent of Conrads and his full name is Johan Conrad Aumiller born in 1705 in Altenhasslau, Hessen-hanau, Germany. He died in PA. He married Ann Marie. I do not have a maiden name. His first son was Phillip Conrad Aumiller born October 02,1727 in Germany, second son was Johan George Aumiller born June 21,1731 in Germany. Then came a son Johannes Aumiller born July 15,1735 in Germany.”
My Comments notes for Johann Conrad (Spouse 1)
Aumiller is a very unusual name, sometimes spelled Oumiller or Awmiller.

Four men of that name arrived America in the 1750’s. Charles A Fisher believed that Philip Conrad, the one who came first, was the father and the other three his sons. An alternate view is found in various Internet Family Trees and in various messages posted to the Aumiller message boards and that is that Conrad who arrived in 1754 was the father, the theory being his two older sons came first and then he, Conrad, came last with his youngest son.

This theory makes more sense to me than the father coming alone first and then sending for his three sons later. Plus, the message board commentary indicates that actual German church baptism records for most of this family have been found. The family shows up almost randomly, sometimes in Penns Township and sometimes in Heidelberg Township (Berks County) as if they moved between the two places, including going back to Berks after some time in Penns.

Tax lists for Heidelberg Township show George Aumiller there in 1758 and then, in 1761, John and Philip. None of the family was listed in the 1770’s and then from about 1780 through 1786 only John was taxed there. After that they all disappeared from the tax rolls.

Meanwhile, in Penns, John Aumiller was granted a warrant for 50 acres in 1772. He served with the Continental Army, having enlisted at Sunbury. He appeared on the tax rolls there in 1787. Philip Conrad and George Aumiller acquired land in 1755 in what was then Cumberland County but is now Snyder County. In 1774, Philip Conrad was an overseer of the poor in Penns Township. He was taxed there continuously from 1780 until his death in 1787.

In any event, by 1787, I think the whole family were pretty much permanent residents of Penns Township.
