Relocated notes for Vert Yerger
IMMIGRANT. The captain of the ship Loyal Judith that arrived Philadelphia 25 Sep 1732 listed a passenger of the name John Feyt Jurigher, age 42. Strassburger translated the signature of that man from the loyalty oath he signed as Johann Velt Jorger. I will call this man Vert Yerger.
My Comments notes for Vert Yerger
We know Vert Yerger from his arrival in 1732, his mention in the church records of New Hanover Lutheran, his mention as his brother in the will of Peter Yerger (Vert declined being named Executor due to poor health) and from his own 1757 will.
I have considered that the Vert who arrived in 1732 at the age of 42 may have been “Father” Yerger and that perhaps traveling with him were young sons by the names Peter and Vert -- both too young (i.e. under 16) to have been named on the ships lists. But Nancy Greger, a 6th cousin and what I call an “email” cousin, has convinced me based on the known 1735 (or possibly even earlier) birth of Peter’s son Tobias, that Peter had to be older than 16 in 1732.
Vert’s will written 11 Nov 1757 was filed in Philadelphia County and proved 30 Mar 1758. He said he was of Ruscomb Manner of Berks County. He said he had already gifted land to sons Thomas and Andrew and he mentioned son-in-law Adam Snell and also wife Sybilla. Consider these other items:
• A Philadelphia deed dated 16 Nov 1749 stated that Vert, alias George, Yerger of Hanover owes £500 to his children Thomas and Andreas of his first wife Elizabeth, deceased. Vert says he is old and soon to marry an old widow and the deed covers the sons in case Vert doesn't make things right in his will.
• We know from church records that Anna Elizabeth wife of Vert died 22 Apr 1749.
• And then on 20 Nov 1749 Vert married Sybilla Renninger.
I conclude from this series of citations that a.) Vert who died in 1758 with sons Thomas and Andrew was the same man who wrote the promissory deed in 1749, and b.) Vert was old and therefore the man who arrived in 1732 at age 42, and c.) Vert seemed to have also used the name George.
