My Comments notes for 7G GF Father Yerger
Our earliest known Yerger ancestor, the immigrant of this line, was Peter Yerger. I do not know the name of his father. But I believe I know the names of two or three of his brothers and the information I have about each of them helps complete the sketch I can provide about Peter. So simply as a device to be able to have Peter and his brothers in my family tree, I begin this line with “Father” Yerger.
From the records of the New Hanover Lutheran Church, we learn the names of Peter Yerger’s assumed older brothers: Martin and Vert (sometimes Veit). We know that Peter had a brother named Vert because he said so in his will. So it is a guess, but I believe a reasonable one, that Martin, whose age would place him between Vert and Peter, was also a brother.
• Then there is Jurg (George) Yerger who was named once in those early church records. Was he also a brother? It turns out he wasn’t, because I found an early document wherein Vert pronounced that he sometimes went by the name George.
• And in addition to Vert, Peter also named another brother in his will: John. And John indeed was named in court records and appointed Executor of Peter’s estate. But who was John? There is one mention of John in the early church records, a man of that name died in 1795 and was said to be 74 years old, thus born about 1721. This must be John.
