I was contacted one day by Laura LaMalva whose mother was born Mertz, to help her determine her ancestry. We determined that Laura was a third cousin of mine as she is descended from the “Greenhouse Mertz” line. Then she mentioned a friend of hers named Carol, wife of Frederick Alan Mertz. The question was, how were they related? Soon, she was getting information from Frederick’s mother, Edythe Walter, who had married Robert Malcolm Mertz, but mentioned Hummels in her own ancestry. I was able to help that family fill in both their Mertz and their Hummel ancestry.

The Hummel line starts with Jacob and his wife Susan Beaver. Their daughter Ester married Frederick Reichley. Ester’s son Samuel married Margaret Moyer and they had a daughter Mrytle Grace. Myrtle Grace married Forrest Gibson Walter and they were Edythe’s parents.

Edythe’s husband Robert Malcolm Mertz was the son of George Miller Mertz and he is of the Lewisburg line of which the progenitor was Jacob Mertz who as the big tombstone in Lewisburg Cemetery.

Their marriage record says they're both of Kratzerville.
