Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Solomon Martz (P2d1)
J L Floyd says this about Solomon. "Solomon Mertz s/o Henry was born 22 Mar 1818 in Upper Augusta Twp. At the age of 7, he went to live with his Uncle Solomon Fagely in Shamokin Twp until he was 18 and then began work for his other Fagely uncles at their store in Mauch Chunk. He then returned to the area and worked for Solomon Fagely at his tavern in Mt Carmel. He then became a driver and mail carrier for the stage line. Later he hauled coal and finally settled on a farm at Reed station and died there 4 Oct 1894 and is buried at Reed's Church.”

Solomon is designated P2d1.

Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Solomon Martz (P2d1)
The will of Solomon Mertz of Shamokin Township was written 8 Jun 1894 and proved 4 Oct 1894 in Northumberland County. It mentioned wife Hannah and after both of their deaths, distributions as follows: interests in limestone quarries and railroad sidings to son George O, $1000 to Adda daughter of George O married Beury, divides his homestead farm among sons Reuben F, John Henry and Jesse R. Mentions son Reuben's wife Emma.

A paper on the early history of the railroads of Sunbury says that when demand for more speedy service popped up, Solomon Martz, a former native of Reed's Station put a one car train "Black Hawk" into service exclusively for carrying passengers and mail. The timeframe isn't specified but it was most likely in the 1840's or 1850's.

Solomon is on find-a-grave.
Known Daughters notes for Solomon Martz (P2d1)
Solomon had two daughters: Isabella and Sophronia. Neither married and both pre-deceased their father.
Known Sons notes for Solomon Martz (P2d1)
Solomon had five sons: George O, William F, Reuben F, John Henry and Jesse R. No mention was made of William F in Solomon’s will so I think he died young. I have tracked the others.
Parent-Proof notes for Hannah (Spouse 1)
Hannah Reed was the daughter of John and Eva (Gillinger) Reed according to her memorial on find-a-grave. J L Floyd says Hannah’s mother was Eva (Howard) Reed. I’ve not looked into it.
Find-a-Grave notes for Hannah (Spouse 1)
Hannah is on find-a-grave.
