Relocated notes for 7G GF William Slade
IMMIGRANT. According to Robert W Barnes: ”William Slade whose will was written 15 May 1675 may have been the William Slayd who was transported [from England] to MD ca 1649 as a servant and settled in Anne Arundel County.”

When he wrote his will, he said he was of Anarundell River. There does not seem to be a river of that name now, but I’m sure it was one of the main rivers of Anne Arundel County (which surrounds Annapolis), possibly the Severn or South River.
Research notes for 7G GF William Slade
The will of William Slade of Anarundell River was dated 15 May 1675 and proved 5 Jun 1675. He left the "plantation where he was living" and some additional lands to his daughter Mary. To son William, he left 200 acres on the south side of Petapsco bought of Quinton Parker. Also mentioned were daughters Elizabeth and Anne. He did not mention his wife. From the wording in his will, it is clear that Anne and Elizabeth were younger than 16 and that Mary and William were older, presumably young adults. Neither apparently had yet married or at least not yet had children.

According to Barnes, Mary Eagle (I presume William’s daughter) later is in possession of some of William’s lands.

Some research says he died in 1676.
My Comments notes for 7G GF William Slade
I believe that our original Slade immigrant ancestor was William. He had a son also named William and the younger William had a son named Ezekial. There is no doubt we descend from Ezekial. But some people believe that our Ezekial was, in fact, the immigrant of our Slade family. They either don’t know about the William who definitely had a son of that name or they know something I don’t that shows there were two different men named Ezekial.

My view is that our Ezekial was indeed the son of the younger William and so my story on our Slade ancestry starts with the older William, who, according to others, was born in England in 1638 and according to Barnes was transported in 1649. When someone was transported, their passage was paid for and they would work it off as a “servant”. In the case of an adult the indenture was typically for five or six years after which time they had a right to claim land in their own name. I have seen it said that in the case of a child, though, the indenture lasted until they attained the age of 21.

William died in 1675 with, at the time, at least two children presumed to be older than 16 and two additional younger children. So, if his birth date is correct, then in his short 37 years of life he emigrated from England, fulfilled his indentured servitude, married someone who also died young, had at least two children by the time he was 20 or not much older -- and possibly still indentured -- and achieved some level of success as a farmer in the new world. My hunch is that he may have been born somewhat before 1638.

Any number of Internet family trees, each copied I’m sure one from another, say that William’s wife was named Elizabeth Baker but no evidence is given to support that notion. Chris Christou notes that in William's will there was mention of several personal items monogrammed M.S. and he conjectures perhaps William’s wife was Mary. I would think it might also be possible that those items belonged to William’s mother rather than his wife. So as of now, I don’t know the name of William’s wife.
