My Comments notes for 6G GF Bernhard Hambscher
I made up this person and then I found out he existed! Before I learned what I now believe is the truth of things, I only knew that there were three early Pennsylvanians named Hamscher: Anton, Adam and John. I surmised they were brothers and since I observed that John’s oldest son was named Barnet and that Adam too had a son of that name, and because I wanted to include their father in my database to link the three together -- I gave the father the made up name Barnet.
Then I came to meet two “email cousins” on the Internet, Kevin Hampshire and Mark Hampshire -- who despite their names are themselves only distant cousins. Both descend from John Hamscher of York County, Kevin from his son George and Mark from his son Barnet. Mark sent me all of the material I’ve included here about the German family of the name Hambscher.
Indeed, our family traces back to Bernhard (otherwise Barnet) Hambscher who lived in Gau Heppenheim, Germany, a little town northwest of Mannheim. Bernhard indeed had sons named John and Adam, born 1732 and 1736 respectively. And Bernhard had a brother, Martin, who had a son Anton born 1724.
