Parent-Proof notes for 3G GF Christopher Slade
He was mentioned in his father’s will. He actually pre-deceased his father, but the will was written before Christopher died.
Census History notes for 3G GF Christopher Slade
He can be accounted for in his father’s household in 1790-1810.

1820. He is the neighbor of his father.

1830. He lives, as does his father, in the 5th Collection District. His age is reported as 50-60, but I think he is 42 and that is a typo.
Discrepant Facts notes for 3G GF Christopher Slade
Christopher’s tombstone is very old and quite difficult to read. Several sources cite his date of death as 10 Dec 1838 while others say 10 Dec 1858 -- in both cases citing his tombstone. His tombstone also says he was age 50 years old when he died.

But there is no question that the tombstone must say 1838.

• I have searched the 1840 and 1850 Census in vain for him and he is not to be found.

• In 1850, though, I believe his unmarried children were living together in the household headed by Asbury Slade (Christopher’s son) who was 33. Their grandmother Ann is on the next page.

• Christopher’s wife Delilah wrote her will in 1846, the year she died. I think were her husband still alive, she would not have written a will.

• In point of fact his estate entered administration 6 Apr 1839, he died intestate, Delilah was Executor with Abraham (brother I assume) and Asbury (son I assume) sureties. And on 11 Nov 1840, Delilah was appointed guardian for William, Christopher, Abraham, Crayton, Ann and John T Slade. Son Asbury was of age so needed no guardian.

So all logic points to his having died in about 1838. I think the idea that he was then age 50 is accurate. A 1788 year of birth conforms well with an 1816 marriage date (and son Asbury born in 1817).
My Comments notes for 3G GF Christopher Slade
Christopher Slade’s pedigree is well documented, though not all sources agree on every date or detail. But taken together, substantial evidence for the relationships I’ve documented herein exist.

Christopher (1788) was the first Christopher Slade, named for his maternal grandfather and Christopher (1825) was his son. The key to proving this relationship is Asbury, since in the 1850 Census, Christopher (1825) lives with Asbury -- and it looks like Asbury is head of household for Christopher and Delilah's younger children -- the children named in Delilah’s will and also in Orphan’s Court petitions after Christopher’s death.
Children Names notes for 3G GF Christopher Slade
The will of Delilah Slade dated 9 Apr 1846 proved 3 Jun 1846 mentioned sons Asbury, William, Christopher, Abraham, John T and Crayton and daughter Ann Slade.

Christopher and Delilah baptized three children at St James Parish including William born 30 Sep 1822, Craton born 14 May 1830 and Ann born 3 Dec 1833. I don’t know why their other children’s baptisms were not recorded.
Parent-Proof notes for Delilah (Spouse 1)
The will of her father, Robert Crayton, said his daughter was Delilah Slade.
Census History notes for Delilah (Spouse 1)
She can be accounted for with her father in 1790 and 1800, but curiously is missing in 1810.

In 1820 and 1830, she can be accounted for with her husband.

In 1840, she is head of household, age 40-49. A married child may be living with her with a son. Son Christopher is apparently present.
Research notes for Delilah (Spouse 1)
A daughter Mary was born 11 Mar 1820.

Delilah wrote her will 9 Apr 1846, it proved 5 Jun 1846. Eldest three sons: Asbury, William and Christopher plus Abraham, Crayton, John T and Ann.
