William L Mertz of West Milton wrote his will 7 May 1917. He leaves everything to his wife Hannah B and gives her the obligation to see that his son William R should receive a first class college education. Upon the death of his wife, everything to be equally divided amongst his children or their heirs. Hannah B and son Charles E are named Executors. Hannah B wrote a similar will the same day. William L died first in 1924 and then when Hannah died in 1925, their heirs were listed as: Mrs. Alicia Yocum of St. Paul, MN, Charles E of Watsontown, Mrs. Mary Richart of West Milton, Mrs. Dorothy Craig of Phila and William R of Milton.

The life of William Lincoln Mertz of Union County is well documented. He can be found in Census listings living with his parents and then when of age on his own with his family. He is buried in Lewisburg Cemetery near many members of his family.

The Commemorative Biographical Record book says this about him: "William Lincoln Mertz, auditor of Union County, is one of our most progressive and successful agriculturists, and has been for some years as a leading live-stock breeder, having upon his extensive farm some fine specimens of Belgium horses, Registered trotting horses, Registered Holstein-Fresian cattle and Registered English Berkshire hogs.

He attended the University of New Berlin for six months and later studied at Lewisburg Academy after which his first career was that of school teacher, but eventually he returned to farming."

Her death certificate confirms her dates of birth and death and name of her husband. Her parents are named as Henry and Mary (Moyer) Kunkel. But her father was George in the 1880 Census and that is how he is listed on find-a-grave, so Henry may simply be a reporting error or perhaps his full name was George Henry or some such.
