Relocated notes for Christopher Mertz
Ancestry has a database “All US and Canda Passenger and Immigration Lists Index” and it shows a Christian Mutz age 14 who arrived NY in 1863. A search for other Mutz in 1863 produced John 22, Riocxhard 36, Robert 26, Amalie 40, August 12, Robert 97 and Julius 7. Are they all related, were they actually on the same ship? The database is severely lacking in detail.
Christopher Matz a varnish maker was listed in a Brooklyn City Driectory in 1886 at 32 Stagg St.

Parent-Proof notes for Anna Elizabeth (Spouse 1)
Family notes sent to me by a descendant, compiled by a cousin many years ago, say she was Elizabeth, daughter of von Hoffman, who came from Germany in 1865 and became a Colonel in the U.S. Army. His wife was Cathewrine Vetter.
Then I found in the Newark Evening Star of 5 Jul 1913 that Anna Elizabeth Mertz (nee Hoffman) wife of Christopher Mertz died 4 Jul 1913. She was age 57. They lived at 164 Chestnut St.
