Research notes for Father of William, Sarah and Mary Martz (U5c)
I am aware of William C Marts (1809-1864) who died in Knox County, OH and whose wife was Sarah Stein. He was already in Knox County by 1840.
I am aware of Sarah (Martz) Stine (1812-1898) who is buried in Bosworth Cemetery in Eaton County, Michigan and whose husband was Daniel Stine (which may be the same name as Stein). In the 1850 census, she lived in Ashland County, Ohio which abuts Knox County.
I am aware of Mary (Martz) Fink (1816-1898) who is also buried in Bosworth Cemetery and whose husband was George Fink. In the 1850 Census, she lived in Knox County.
Descendants of Mary and Sarah strongly believe they were sisters. Various records (Census, children’s death certificate) state William, Sarah and Mary, all three, were born in Pennsylvania.
I believe these three were siblings. I have no idea who their father was or even where in Pennsylvania they may have come from.
Mary’s death certificate says her father was Danl Martz and her mother Schall. This has led people with Ancestry Trees to guess that the father of some or all of these people was Daniel Martz (H1d) but I think there are other Daniel’s who may be better candidates, the word Danl is hard to read and might have been Davd or some other scribbled name and in any event Daniel (H1d) had a son William, not the one who died in Knox County.
