Parent-Proof notes for Hannah E Schappell
She is said to have been the daughter of John Schappell and Caroline Bowen on find-a-grave citing her death certificate.
In 1880, she lived in Cressona with daughter Carrie age 6 and son Harvey age 4.
Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Daniel F (Spouse 1)
We know Peter had a son Daniel from his presence in his father’s household in 1850 and 1860. He is designated J3b1.
He signed his name as Daniel F Martz when he witnessed his father’s will and was called Daniel F Martz by his brothers who attested to his death at the time of proving their father’s will. He registered for the Civil War draft as Danl F Martz.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Daniel F (Spouse 1)
There were two Daniels in Schuylkill Haven in the 1870 Census. One was age 36 and married to Levina, the other age 40 and lived alone. The latter one I am quite sure was this one, Daniel F.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Daniel F (Spouse 1)
Daniel Francis Mertz is on find-a-grave linked to his wife, Hannah E Schappell, who apparently married Elijah Boyer after Daniel died.
Daniel F wrote his will (Will Book 5, page 92) 10 Dec 1879 and it proved 2 Jan 1880. He said he was of Cressona and he named wife Hannah and two children: Cara Rebecca and Harvey John.
And in the 5 Jun 1894 issue of the Miners Journal (a Pottsville newspaper), it says Elijah Boyer was appointed guardian of Harvey Mertz a minor son of Daniel late of Cressona and Edward Fessler appointed guardian of Carrie Fessler, nee Mertz. This is 15 years late, isn’t it?
