The death certificate of Susie May Miller says she was born in Allentown to John and Lizzie (Coffman) Mertz. The death certificate of Ellen E Mertz names her parents as George and Margaret (Huffnagle) Kauffman.

John was listed in his father’s household in 1850-1870. His death certificate lists no names of his parents but curiously says he was born in Shamrock Station, Berks County. I had not heard of Shamrock before I began working on this family, it is where his brother Theodore lived in 1880.
But it is curious that the informant on John’s death certificate, W H Mertz, named I would think after John’s father, did not know that name. W(illiam) H was born about 1884 so if he met his grandfather, he wouldn’t have remembered the event. But perhaps he did remember visiting an uncle in Shamrock and thought that was the ancestral home.
