An AWT says Samuel was the son of Johannes. Johannes was a circuit minister and it rang a bell for me because I had seen that John Herbst served briefly in 1826 as the minister at the church in Manchester, MD. I knew it couldn’t be Mandela’s father — he was too young — but the idea it was this John makes sense.
