Louis Fackler found record of his baptism at Wendrich Church. He is designated H1d2.

David Martz, a miller, is present in East Hanover Township in 1850 where his father also lived. Louis Fackler speculates that Adam Martz, age 21, living with David in 1850 was his brother and can account for him as a tick mark in earlier census listings with Daniel, their father. A new-born son, David H, was present in this household too.

In 1860, David has moved to Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County where his father had lived in 1840.

By 1870, David had moved to Cumberland County but the name and ages of others in his household, as well his occupation of working in a grist mill, make it clear this is the same David.

And I believe it is also this same David who in 1880 now lived in Franklin County. A carry-through is that he was still a miller by occupation and another is that his daughter Alice A age 20 lived with him, she formerly the Annie A age 10 in 1870. By 1880, he had a younger wife but I think it is all explained by find-a-grave.

I think I found David on find-a-grave. His tombstone, which he shares with wife Sue E (Preisler) Martz, says 1824-1896. Since I know he was born in 1822, this discrepancy needs some explanation.

There is a photo of his tombstone on find-a-grave and in the background is a large obelisk which it just so happens is the same obelisk displayed as the tombstone of Susan Martz (1825-1873) who I am certain was David’s first wife and Sue E Preisler who first appeared with David in 1880 his second wife.
