Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Henry Martz (U5f)
I was looking one-time for a John A Martz who was 7 years old in the 1850 Census and the only person I could find that might be him was John Adam Martz (1842-1913) who is buried in Altoona, PA. But then I was able to learn that John Adam was the son of Henry and Mary (Crape) Martz and so he was not the John A I was looking for. But who was Henry?
Mary Martz was age 33 in 1850, so if Henry was about her age, a guess would be he was born about 1815. That doesn’t help, I still don’t know who he was. So he goes into the catch-all U5 bucket and is designated U5f.
Henry and Mary Crape or Krape were named as the parents on two Pennsylvania death certificates: John Adams Martz was said to be the son of Henry Martz and Mary Crape. Sarah Jane Spangler (wife of George) was said to be the daughter of John H March and Mary Crape.
Sarah Jane is a bit of a mystery, she must have been the Rebecca Martz reported as age 4 in the widow Mary’s 1850 household.
