Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Tilghman (Spouse 1)
This is one of four men named Tilghman Mertz born between 1816 and 1844 in or near Lehigh County.

In 1860, we find Tilghman age 24 [1836] living with Joseph 51, Sarah 44, Reuben 22, Lydia 10 and William 4 — in North Whitehall. Joseph, I think, is of the Heidelberg line.

He must be the Tilghman age 15 living with the Boyer family in 1850. So it’s possible he was not Joseph’s son, for example, maybe he was his nephew finally taken in by 1860.

But I think the more straightforward answer is he was Joseph’s son. He is designated G1c1a. I do not know why he wasn’t living with his family in 1850.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Tilghman (Spouse 1)
And then this is the Tilghman, I am quite sure, age 35 in 1870 with Sarah Jane 25 in North Whitehall. And he is 44 in 1880 with Sarah Jane 35 and now Mosby D 7 and younger children. Sarah’s death certificate says she was Sarah Bossard, the name given on her find-a-grave memorial.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Tilghman (Spouse 1)
Tilghman and Sarah are on find-a-grave. He is linked to Joseph and Sallie as his parents.
