We know Herman from the 1850 Census when he was age 14 living with his parents and then in the 1860 Census when he was age 24, single, and head of household with the “remnants” of William’s family. Herman is designated H2a3a.

There are four death certificates for Herman’s and his wife’s children and they all give her name as Tena Bittner. Her own death certificate gives the same name, she was the daughter of Jonathan Bittner and Susan Switzer.
Her name was given as Christena in the 1870 Census and then Teeny in 1880. Inexplicably, engraved on the tombstone she shares with her husband, her name is Lena. I believe her name was Christena and she clearly went mostly by Tena.
