Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for William Henry Martz (H1d1c)
We know William as William’s son from his presence in his father’s household in the 1850 Census. He is designated H1d1c.
I believe I can spot him in the 1860-1870 Census, unmarried, living with “random” people. Then by 1880, he had moved to Iowa where he lived the remainder of his life.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for William Henry Martz (H1d1c)
William is on find-a-grave and his obituary (edited somewhat by me) from the Chariton Herald-Patriot is given there.
“William H. Martz, Civil War veteran, was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg, on November 19, 1843, and died in Davis City, Iowa, on Friday, April 7, 1933.
On December 15, 1870, he was united in marriage to Ellen Little in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who preceded him in death on September 22, 1930. To this union eight children were born, four of whom are living. They are Reuben H., of Davis City; Ben F., of Chariton; Mrs. Maude Haliburton, of Des Moines; and Edward, of New York State. A daughter, Mrs. Clara Boland, passed away in 1932 and a son, William Jr., passed away in 1902.”
His wife’s obituary, on her find-a-grave memorial, says she was born in Philadelphia but that they married in Harrisburg.
Parent-Proof notes for Ellen E (Spouse 1)
The Iowa marriage record of Reuben Hileman Martz says his parents were Wm H Martz and Ellen E Little.
The Iowa State Census in 1925 said her parents were Wm and Anna (Neilly) Little.
