Parent-Proof notes for Theresa A Breckinridge
Her name was given as Thuressa A Breckinridge on their marriage record, Teresh on the 1880 Census and it was Estella (I assume all the same woman) on the 1892 court filing.
Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Eli (Spouse 1)
An Indiana death certificate was filed for Eli Martz of Mulberry, Indiana. It says he was born in 1841 in Pennsylvania and died in 1919. It further says he was the son of Solomon Martz and Susan Merkel. I think it is wrong — at least in terms of the name of his father.

The informant on this death certificate was George Mertz (not Martz?). I’m not sure who he was, I don’t think he was Eli’s son or brother, so I’m willing to believe whoever he was he momentarily got confused.

I think Eli was the son of John (Solomon’s brother). The reasons I think this are:

1. He lived with John in 1850-1870.

2. He was listed with wife Estella as a plaintiff on the 1892 petition. The plaintiffs were the children of John, Solomon’s children were among the defendants.

3. In 1880, Adam was a member of his household described as a half-brother.

4. John stayed behind in Pennsylvania when the rest of the family, including Solomon, came to Indiana in the 1830’s. John didn’t come until sometime in the 1840’s. Eli, the death certificate says, was born in PA in 1841.

So I’m fairly certain that Solomon was not Eli’s father, John was. But who was Susan Merkel? John’s first wife was Leah Merkel. Did she also go by Susan? Was George Mertz wrong on her name too, in her case just her first name?

Or, was Susan Merkel in fact Solomon’s first wife, whose name I don’t know? If that is true then the informant got the names of the couple (Solomon and Susan) right, but they were not the parents, I don’t think.

Eli is designated H1b3a.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Eli (Spouse 1)
Eli is not on find-a-grave but according to his death certificate he was to be buried at Fairhaven.
