Daniel Mertz is listed by Floyd and Meiser as a son of Jacob and Sarah Jury. Meiser says he was born about 1812 and married Hannah.
He was reported variously as born in 1812, 1810 and 1811 in Census which makes him Jacob’s oldest son.
In fact, his birth and baptism was reported in a family search database “PA Births and Christenings”. Born 16 Aug 1809, baptized 08 July 1810 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran, Killingers. Daniel is designated U1a.

I don’t know when he died. As of autumn 2015, he is not on find-a-grave.
Known Sons notes for Daniel Martz (U1a)
Three younger males were reported with Daniel over the years.
William, present in 1850, 1860 and 1870 was his son for sure, proven by his death certificate.
Then there is Henry A. He lived with Daniel in 1860, age 22, but curiously was reported “out-of-order”, the implication being that he was not Daniel’s son. So where was he in 1850? The only young Henry I can find lived with Jonas (Daniel’s brother) in 1850 and was reported as age 14. He was reported “out-of-order” in Jonas’ household too. But his death certificate seems to confirm he was Daniel’s son.
Finally, Clinton C lived with Daniel in 1870 (age 10) and 1880 (age 19). In 1880, it even said he was Daniel’s son. But I don’t think so. I found a death certificate for Clinton Martz born about 1863, son of Henry Martz and Catherine Romberger. According to that certificate, Clinton, Henry and Catherine were all born in Dauphin County.
And what is very curious is that there was a very young (10 months old) Henry C Martz living in the household of Christian Ramberger in 1850 and also present in that household was Catharine Romberger age 24.
So I believe the situation is clear. Henry A was indeed the son of Daniel and Clinton C his son. Henry is designated U1a1, his brother William U1a2.
