Known Sons notes for John Peter Martz (T3a1)
From the 1850 Census, there was John and David. Both are linked to J P and Martha on find-a-grave. John died at age 12, leaving David as the only son I have designated.
T3a1a David born 1842.
But then in 2016, I heard from Owen Martz, a descendant. He told me that his line is:
“My father was Dennis Allen Martz (1942 - 1981) / wife Linda May Kendall Martz (1943 - 2014)
My grandfather is Frederick Blessing Martz / wife Nella Morton Martz (1925 to 1982)
My great grandfather was John Peter Martz IV (1881 - 1971) / wife Laura Alice Kegerice Martz (1881 - 1972). Had 15 children - 1 stillborn, 1 died in infancy and 13 lived to adulthood. John P was nicknamed "Limestone King of Fulton County." Eventually owned 5 farms totaling over 1000 acres, an inn, and a dirt race track in the 1940s.
His father was John Peter Martz III (b 1815) who lived in Franklin County (area called Markes near Mt Parnell Fisheries). About 7 or 8 years ago, my grandfather erected a memorial at his burial site which is near the intersection of Rt 30 and 416.
You are correct that after his first wife died, John Peter married second Cecilia Connelly by whom he had two more sons: John Peter IV and William B, both born when John Peter was age 65-70. It is one of the stories that I grew up hearing. Apparently he was quite vigorous at that age, as was his son, John P IV and my grandfather.
As far as I know, we are descended from John Peter Jr b 1787 in Middletown, Md. and his father John Peter Sr b 1756 in Middletown, Frederick, Md.
