Find-a-Grave notes for Eliza Ann Helfrich
She’s on find-a-grave, the source of the dates I show for her and of her maiden name.
Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Tilghman (Spouse 1)
In the 1850-1880 Census we find multiple Tilghman Mertz.
The “original” was born in 1816 and I think he and most of the others are not related to this Mertz line at all. Another was born early-to-mid-1830’s.
Then there is Tilghman Mertz born 1829 who was consistently reported in Census age 20 in 1850 with his parents Charles and Sarah, age 30 in 1860, 40 in 1870 and 50 in 1880. He’s paired with wife Eliza in Census and wife Eliza Ann Helfrich on find-a-grave.
It was necessary to lay out all these Tilghmans on a spreadsheet to be able to tell one from the other. Plus I added several younger Tilghmans, one born 1844 and some even younger still.
The History of Lehigh County by Charles Rhodes lists Tilghman as a son of Charles and wife Salome who I know was also called Sarah. He is designated H6a1a.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Tilghman (Spouse 1)
We meet him first in 1850, he was age 20 and lived with his parents Charles and Sarah.
In 1860, 1870 and 1880 he was with wife Eliza and in 1870 and 1880 they had children including sons Frank and Milton (and others).
He was always in South Whitehall Township.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Tilghman (Spouse 1)
He’s on find-a-grave with the dates I show for him. He’s paired with wife Eliza Ann Helfrich.
I found a Lehigh County land record whereby Frank P and George H Mertz, Executors of the will of Tilghman Mertz dated 9 Dec 1898 were selling a lot of land in Allentown conveyed to Tilghman by Lewis J Helfrich.
