His obituary is on find-a-grave: “William Mertz, a well-known resident near Bowers, who died of apoplexy, was aged about 68 years. While at the Easter festival in Trinity Lutheran Church this year he had a slight attack. He is survived by his widow and two sons, James and George, both of Rockland, and one brother, Peter, of Bowers.”
