Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Martin Mertz (N1c2)
The fact that he was first listed in Census was 1850 in Wayne Township where others of Jacob’s family were living and his age leads me to believe he was Jacob’s son. The fact that his middle initial was “K” (I would guess for Karcher) adds evidence I think. Martin is designated N1c2.
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Martin Mertz (N1c2)
He was born in New York State (as he said on the 1850 Census) and no doubt came with the rest of his family to Erie County in the 1830’s. He was first listed on his own in the 1850 Census with wife Marsha. They were both there also in 1860-1880.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Martin Mertz (N1c2)
A Martin K Mertz is on find-a-grave in Erie County with no dates and no tombstone photo. His wife Marcia Baker is there too and her life span was 1822-1903. The two children linked to them were born in 1853 and 1856.
Known Daughters notes for Martin Mertz (N1c2)
From find-a-grave, we know M Ellen. From Census, we also know Lillie [1856] and Carrie [1864].
Known Sons notes for Martin Mertz (N1c2)
Martin had two sons born before the 1850 Census. One was called Martin S in 1850 and then Leroy thereafter. No mater, I am unable to find him in 1880 or thereafter. The other was David born about 1848. He is no doubt the David living on his own, age 34, in 1880 in Venango Township but after that I lose all track of him.
Parent-Proof notes for Marcia (Spouse 1)
She is present on find-a-grave linked to Martin as her husband.
