Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Peter H (Spouse 1)
Obituaty from find-a-grave. THE LOGANSPORT PHAROS, SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 1909. DEATH OF PETER MERTZ, LEADING CITIZEN OF BURNETTSVILLE. Peter H. Mertz, a prominent and wealthy citizen of Burnettsville, died at six o'clock this morning, being within a few days of 69 years old. He had been ill for several months with some intestinal trouble that was not properly understood. He leaves a wife and the following children: Mrs. Dr. B C Stevens and Mrs. Fred Davis, of this city; Jay Mertz, attorney, Detroit; Max Mertz, Panhandle agent at Onward; Miss Lucile Mertz, student at Indiana University. Mr. Mertz was born in Pennsylvania, and came to Cass County in 1864, settling on a farm southeast of Burnettsville. He lived there until about ten years ago, when he retired from work and located in Burnettsville. He was a man of strong personality and good education and a leader in the community where he lived. He belonged to the Brethern church and was a good citizen. The funeral will be held at Burnettsville on next Wednesday, which would have been his birthday.
Peter and Sarah are on find-a-grave.

Discrepancies notes for Peter H (Spouse 1)
The Mifflin History states that Peter married first Sarah Sieber who died and then he married again.
I only learned something about this man when Henry Nichols, a descendant, contacted me to correct my statement as to where Peter was buried. I mistakenly had him listed as buried in Riverview. That is because Joseph Meiser, in his transcription of Riverview burials, listed Amanda as buried in Riverview and as was his style if he knew it, annotated her entry with the name of her spouse and even the appropriate dates of birth and death for the spouse if he knew it. At some point I learned that that does not necessarily mean the spouse is also buried at Riverview, though it would seem so based only on a casual examination of the listings. But the spouse is only there if the spouse also has a separate entry for him or herself. Peter H is not listed by Meiser as actually buried in Riverview, he is only there as Amanda’s spouse.
In his Riverview transcription, Meiser also mistakenly had the date of death for Peter H as 20 Mar 1908 -- even though in the Pioneer Mertzes of Northumberland County publication, the correct dates were given. It was also said in that publication that Peter H died in Burnettsville, IN.
