Parent-Proof notes for Heinrich Fetter
There is supposed to be proof of his baptism at Ziegel Church in Weisenberg Township with birth date matching the date that Meiser transcribed from his tombstone -- but I have searched those church records and can’t find it. Nonetheless, I believe Heinrich was the son of Philip.
My Comments notes for Heinrich Fetter
Heinrich most definitely came to Northumberland from the Northampton County area, giving credence to Floyd’s version of events. Not only does the birth date on his tombstone match his birth date as stated at his Northampton baptism but his wife’s tombstone at Salem Cemetery in Rough and Ready specifically says she was born in Whitehall Township, Northampton County.
But there was a discrepancy about his date of death. The original record for Heinrich on find-a-grave said that his tombstone apparently no longer exists, only his wife’s is present. And it gave a date of death for Heinrich of 1870. I pointed out to the person who maintained this memorial that:
• That would make him about 91 when he died since we know he was born in 1779 -- and that stretches credulity
• I cannot find him in Census after 1840
• He is though listed in the 1850 Census Mortality Table saying he died in Feb 1850 -- and it is him, age is right, occupation is right and residence is right
• Joseph A Meiser who transcribed tombstones all over Northumberland County (and nearby) apparently did find a tombstone for Heinrich -- probably in the 1960’s -- and he lists exact dates for him, including that he died 6 Feb 1850.
It took a while but eventually corrections were made to his memorial.
My Comments notes for Elizabeth (Spouse 1)
Elizabeth is another important carry-through connecting the Northampton family to the Susquehanna River family. The marriage of Heinrich and Elizabeth was performed by Rev. Helfrich who served many different congregations in the Northampton-Berks region including Longswamp, Maxatawny, Lowhill and Macungie Townships. And then her tombstone in Rough and Ready says she was Elzabeth Hartman born in Northampton County, wife of Heinrich Fetter.
