I am certain this was the Joseph Sutton who claimed and then surveyed land in Shrewsbury Township, York County jointly with Adam Hendrix starting in 1769. Together they acquired a great deal of land including and surrounding the tract where later the Blue Ball Inn was established. This land was then later partitioned between Joseph and Adam and then some of Joseph’s portions were bought by Adam. The Adam Hendrix being mentioned here was the one called Adam Miller Hendrix.
The natural and obvious assumption is that Joseph Sutton and Adam Miller Hendrix must have been joint heirs of someone and that person would be Thomas Sutton which adds credibility to the theory that Adam married his daughter.
