The Fordham line traces back to the mid-1600’s in Southampton, NY. Through Census, I can trace this line to a man named Peletiah Fordham who was Post Master of Southampton in 1850.

At first, I wasn’t even sure what the spelling was of his given name, but when I entered it into Ancestry.com and then later Google, I am certain I have it right. Helen’s ancestors, I would say, are among the most prominent earliest settlers of eastern Long Island. In particular, Google brings up some connection between some Peletiah (maybe your ancestor or it could have been a common name in that family as I know there was one there in the 1700’s) and the Amistad case.
