Research notes for Mary W Hummel
I found John’s daughter Mary A and she shares his tombstone. Therefore Mary W is NOT the daughter of Johannes.
The 6 Dec 1821 birth date comes from Meiser’s Riverview work. He specifically says she was d/o John and Mary and they are listed as John 1808-1875 and Mary 1807-1896.
Meiser seems oblivious to the implication that John was about 13 years old when Mary was born.
There is a document on the North’d Co Genweb site on Riverview burials. Mrs. Mary Brautigem is listed, buried 14 Mar 1900 and it says she was age 77.
She is 25, 37, 45, 56 in Census. Even if she was born in 1825, she was born when her father was 17, her mother 18.
I think the most telling fact is that John and Mary Hummel do have a daughter named Mary in the 1850 Census and she is 10 then. I think Meiser is simply wrong that Mary Brautigan was the daughter of John and Mary Hummel. So the question is: was she even Mary nee Hummel? I suspect not.

Meiser shows Mary W who married D M Brautigan as a daughter of Johannes. But Meiser is simply wrong on this point. I don’t know if Mary W Brautigan was even born Hummel.
