Parent-Proof notes for 5G GF John Jacob Hassinger Jr.
He was named in his father’s will. All sources agree that Jacob born 1762 was the son of Jacob born 1731.
Census History notes for 5G GF John Jacob Hassinger Jr.
1790. Jacob Jr. lives near Jacob (presumably Sr.) in North’d County. Jacob Jr. reports one young son and two females. The AWT does not show a marriage date for Jacob Jr. and Magdalena Krick and shows no children born before 1790 -- but it would seem they did marry before 1790 and had a couple of children -- who may not have survived to adulthood.
The 1810 Census shows 5 Hassinger (Hosinger) households in Centre Twp, North’d Co. plus Daniel age 45+ and Daniel Jr. age 26-45 in Beaver Twp, North’d Co. I think they can be sorted out and help to verify the Ancestry family tree of dmbhari. They are:
Five brothers and the widow of a sixth -- all sons of John Jacob Hassinger Sr.
Daniel age 45+. I believe he is Daniel 1760-1825 so age 50, his son is his neighbor.
Jacob age 45+. I believe he is John Jacob Jr. 1762-1821 so age 48.
George age 26-45. I believe he is George 1773-1855 so age 37.
Abraham age 26-45. I believe he is Abaham 1765-1828, so age 45.
Philip age 26-45.
Catherine age 26-45, widow. She was Catherine Bobb 1769-1826 so age 41 widow of John 1764-1810.
As Daniel is the oldest son, it makes sense that only his son Daniel Jr. has emerged on his own right.
John Jacob Jr. is supposed to have had three sons: Jacob (1792), Michael (1795) and John (1798). Jacob in the 1810 Census lists four sons, one under 10 and three 10-16.
My Comments notes for 5G GF John Jacob Hassinger Jr.
Charles A Fisher in “Snyder County Pioneers” says that John Jacob Jr. with dates as listed married Magdalena (maiden name unknown) with dates as shown and that both were buried in Hassinger’s Old Cemetery. He served in the Revolutionary War.
I have copy of his will. It was written 19 Mar 1821. He named his wife Mary Magdalena and it is clear he had young children, not yet of age. It is clear also that his son John was his main heir or perhaps the one still living at home as he mentioned son Michael who got the land where he (Michael) was then living in Muncy Township, Lycoming County. He named daughter Peggy but did not name his other, younger, children.
He was fairly specific as to things he left his wife and/or his family, including “all my books” shall remain for the use of the family and even 30 gallons of whisky to be left for the use of the family. He instructed that an “apartment” be built of 15 feet width running the length of one end of his house for the use of his wife.
He named his son John and his “friend” Conrad Hassinger as Executors.
When the estate accounting was filed 9 Aug 1828, it was filed by Conrad alone, the surviving Executor. It indicated that “the place” was sold to Henry Hilbish (brother of our ancestor Catherine).
Parent-Proof notes for Mary Magdalena (Polly) (Spouse 1)
She is named as his daughter Polly, wife of Jacob Hassinger, in her father’s 1815 will. I first learned the names of her parents in the Ancestry World Tree of Danielle Harrison.
