I know of Joseph as Jacob’s son based on the research of Douglas Martz, a descendant of both. He is designated P6b1.

Joseph and Sarah are on find-a-grave and their sons John, David, Joseph and William Henry are linked to them.

An interesting “Public Notice” appeared in 1842 in the Sunbury Gazette stating that Jacob Martz and Ira T Clement purchased several diverse items (furniture and two horses) at the constable sale of the property of Joseph Martz of Augusta Township and then loaned those items back to Joseph. The only Joseph Martz I know is this one. Ira T Clement married Sarah Martz, the daughter of David Martz (P6a), Joseph’s cousin. I assume Jacob Martz was Joseph’s father.

I know Joseph had a daughter Mary Elizabeth. She marred Henry Gellinger who died not long at all after they married. I found notice of their marriage on newspapers.com and the article said they married at the home of Solomon Martz. Henry in fact is buried in the same cemetery as Solomon. so this is yet another connection of the Jacob Martz family of Catawissa back to the Augusta Township Martz family.

From the 1850 Census, Joseph had five sons: John, Jacob, David, Joseph and William.

Jacob and David had not left home by 1880 so are not designated.

Her find-a-grave memorial says she was the daughter of Frederick and Maria (Kieffer) Helwig.
