Gottfried Mertz and I match DNA exactly. I know this because I match Ron Mertz, great-grandson of Gottfried. Gottfried came to America in the 1840’s and settled in the St. Louis area. He came from Alsace were his family had lived well over 100 years having emigrated perhaps around the late 1600’s from Switzerland.
