This is the woman baptized as Maria Elisabetha and listed that way on the Mertz Church monument that honors John Henry and his family. She was also named in her father’s will, though she was named simply Maria in that document.

But Pamela Downs has brought to my attention that in the records of the Jerusalem church in Western Salisbury, she was referred to as Anna M. as much as she was Maria in her children’s baptismal records (and once it was Anna Maria Elisabetha — very confusing!).

So we’re not 100% sure of her name. But I think maybe the baptism record was mistaken, that she was named for her mother and her name was Anna Maria.

Mertz Church records show two records for her 14 Aug 1757 baptism. One says b.4 Aug 1757, the other b.31 Jul 1757.
