The biography of Rev Luther Rice Carroll is given in the Sampson County Heritage book. It says he was long known in Sampson and Duplin County for his height (6 feet 7 inches), his bravery as a Confederate soldier, his ability as a teacher and his dedication as a Baptist minister.
