The records of St. John's Church in Mifflinburg list the baptism of Rachel E Diehl daughter of William H and Rachel E Diehl. She was baptized 4 Apr 1873 and her baptism record gives her date of birth 24 Feb 1873. Those church records also show the death of Rachel, the mother, about a month after that birth and three days before the baptism. And then Rachel, the daughter, died at age 1 year and 9 months.

As with others in her family, there is some disagreement as to her birth date, death date and age at death between different sources. I have gone with her birth date from her baptism record and her death date from her tombstone.

It was a listing of tombstones in Mifflinburg that I found on the Internet that included both Rachel E Diehl and Maude that caused me to totally re-assess my original belief that the wife of William H was named Rachel R Diehl. She was, in fact, Rachel E Diehl but now I know that the tombstone listing that kicked off my reevaluation of things -- which had no age or birth date -- was actually that of the daughter.
