Meiser’s Martz/Mertz lists John as the oldest son of William and Elizabeth as does J L Floyd.

J L Floyd says this about John. "John Martz born Dec 1818, son of William, passed his entire life in Snydertown, dying there 21 Jan 1892. He farmed, worked on the railroad and was overseer of the poor. He married Elizabeth Kaseman daughter of John and Elizabeth (Reichard) and they had four children: Franklin P of Ralpho Twp, William E, Clara married David Snyder of Snydertown and Elizabeth married William J Barrell and resides Shamokin Borough."

John is designated P6a1a.

In 1850, John, not yet married apparently, lived with the Conrad family in Shamokin Township, very near William Martz his father. He was 32 though reported as age 25.

By 1860 he had married and was starting to raise his family.
