John married Barbara Ziegler. She was the woman named Barbara Boyer who testified in a court case in about 1840 wherein the estate of Catherine (Boyer) Kreider (John’s sister) was contesting the settlement of Leonard Boyer’s estate with regard a certain loan Leonard had made to Catherine’s husband Isaac and whether that loan had been forgiven in the will or was due the estate.

The issue that was litigated is not of importance here. What is of importance is that Barbara said in her testimony that Leonard had died about 17 years previous and that for about eight years he had lived with John and Barbara. If her recollections were perfect, which they possibly weren’t, this would indicate that Leonard died about 1823 and had gone to live with his son and daughter-in-law in about 1815. It would be my guess that Leonard made that move not long after his wife died.
