Parent-Proof notes for Christian Hummel
In 2016, I was contacted by Don Drewry, genealogist for the Pennsylvania Society Sons of the American Revolution. He was researching a Daniel Hummel who lived in Middlecreek Township in 1860 and died there in 1873. Daniel had been in Norwalk, Ohio in 1850 and possibly in Union County in 1840.

Don was trying to determine who was Daniel’s father. One candidate was Christian who had a son Daniel, according to Joseph Meiser. I shared with Don that Meiser said Christian was a son of Adam Hummel, son of Elias and that he had come to Union County from Nazareth Township, Northampton County.

And I also said the curious thing is there was a Christian Hummel in exactly that place in 1850, which made me wonder if Meiser was correct.

Don did some more research and followed up with me as follows: “I looked into Christen Hummel of Northampton county. The Easton Library has a very good genealogy room that has a family book on Elias Hummel. The book was written by Gayle Fisher. I went through the book yesterday. As you indicated, Elias and Anna Maria Hummel had a son Adam.  From what is indicated in the book,  Adam lived in lower Nazareth Pa and died in 1794. Adam had three children Christian and Solomon and Anna Maria. Christian was born 20 Feb 1783 (Dryland Church record) and died abt.  12 Sept 1850.  However, Christian never moved.  He is buried in the Dryland Church Cemetery. There is also an obituary from the Easton paper that indicates Christian died when he was gored by a bull.  Solomon Hummel, Christian’s son, is buried in Easton.  Based on the information in this Hummel Family book and local records, Christian Hummel and his children lived their whole lives in Northampton County.

Based on this information, the Christian that lived and died in Union county was not the Christian from Northampton County.  There is an 1800 Pennsylvania census that list a Christian Hummel  along with Valentine, Frederick and Mary Hummel in Hummelstown Dauphin County. It is more likely this Christian moved to Northumberland by 1840.”

Census History notes for Christian Hummel
1810. Christian lives in Centre Twp, North’d Co age 26-45. His wife is 16-26 and their children are a son and a daughter both under 10.

1820. Centre Twp age 26-45 with 4 younger males.

1830. Union Twp age 40-50 with 4 other males.

1840. Union Twp age 50-60 with 2 other males.

1840. There is a Daniel Humel in Middlecreek age 20-30. He must be a son of one of George Adam's sons, but Meiser mention no son named Daniel, except he does list a son of Christian of that name supposedly born in 1823. So, is this Daniel that Daniel?

Also, a William Hummel appears in 1840 in Centre Twp age 20-30, I’m not not sure whose son he is.
Research notes for Christian Hummel
Meiser says he died in 1848 and is buried in Jackson Township.
My Comments notes for Christian Hummel
From Census, he would seem to have some relationship to the family of George Adam Hummel. Meiser says he is the son of a different Adam Hummel.

In point of fact, he cannot be the son of George Adam since he is not mentioned in his 1808 will. (Yes, he could have been disowned and all that but I don’t consider that worth speculating on). I believe he is not George Adam’s son but may be related somehow and I have placed him as George Adam’s son just to keep him in my database with the information I have about him.
