He was named Executor of his father’s will. He is designated P6a2.
J L Floyd says this about David. "David Martz was born 15 Oct 1802 in Lower Augusta Twp, North'd Co, PA and died 11 Nov 1855. He located in Paxinos after his marriage where he operated a fulling mill and was later Justice of the Peace. He is buried at Blue Church in Ralpho Twp. His wife Hannah Evert was born 6 Oct 1804 and died 9 Jun 1880 and is also buried at Blue Church. Children: Eliza died unmarried, Henry a teacher died unmarried, Margaret m.David Adams, Sarah m.Emanual Artman, Franklin, Mary m.Albert Fisher, David, John (twin of David) deceased, Hannah m.Jackson Hoffman, Susan died young."
Relocated and Census Tracking notes for David (Spouse 1)
He was reported in 1830 in Augusta Township and in 1840 and 1850 in Shamokin Township.
David and his wife Hannah attended Blue Church and were communicants there as early as 1832. Their children continued at that church for many years. Remember, Daniel, son of William, also attended this church as did his future wife. This raises the question, how did they meet? That church seems far afield from where Daniel was living.
But maybe he came to be there because his Uncle David was there -- and that strengthens the argument that William was David’s brother. They married the Evert sisters -- happened all the time back then, brothers married sisters.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for David (Spouse 1)
On 20 Nov 1855, letters were issued to Henry Martz (widow renounced) on the estate of David Martz of Shamokin Township, deceased. Sureties were Jacob Evert and Ira T Clement. [Henry, the Executor, was no doubt David’s son and Ira T Clement was Henry’s uncle, probably Jacob Evert was too.]
In about Aug 1856, a petition to the Northumberland County Orphans Court was filed on behalf of Mary Magdalena, John E, David P and Hannah Martz, minors above the age of 14, children of David Martz deceased -- seeking the appointment of guardians. Charles Mertz, Hannah Mertz and John Fisher stepped up.
Charles was probably their uncle, Hannah their mother and I guess John Fisher was David’s son’s soon to be father-in-law..
David is on find-a-grave.
