Birth, Parent-Proof, Designation notes for Nathaniel Martz (U1c1)
His death certificate says he was born in Dauphin County and was the son of Charles Martz, born in Berks County, and Sarah Lebo who was born in Dauphin County. This conflicts with his baptism record which says he was the son of Carl and Catharina Martz.

It is not that his father was Carl versus Charles, I think the name Carl was sometimes substituted for Charles in old records. Nathaniel is designated U1c1.

Investigating further I think the explanation is that Sarah Lebo was Nathaniel’s wife and she was also the informant on his death certificate and simply entered her own maiden name in the “mother” field.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Nathaniel Martz (U1c1)
The will of Nathaniel Mertz, written 30 Sep 1907 while he resided in Lower Mahanoy Twp, North'd Co was probated in Snyder Co. He left everything to wife Sarah (as long as she carries his name). Upon her death, he split his estate in four equal shares among daughter Amelia Alice Bowers, sons Charles F Mertz and James Milton Mertz and Charles L Mertz, son of James.
Parent-Proof notes for Sarah (Spouse 1)
Her death certificate says her father was James Lebo.
