Relocated and Census Tracking notes for Christian Mertz (U1d)
There are some inconsistencies in Census. Furthermore, I can’t find him in 1860. One consistent thing is that his occupation was miller every time.
In 1850, his wife was Sarah and they had three children. Adam was age 3, there was no Isaac. In 1870, his wife was Mary and the only child present was Isaac age 19. And in 1880, his wife was Sarah again and Isaac was now 30.
So there is no carryover of children from 1850 to the later decades and the additional anomaly is that Isaac’s death certificate says he was born in 1849 — so he should have been listed in the 1850 Census.
Death and Find-a-Grave notes for Christian Mertz (U1d)
He is on find-a-grave and there is a death certificate,. The death certificate gives the name of his father only as Martz and no name for his mother and says he was born in Dauphin County, without being specific as to place.
Known Sons notes for Christian Mertz (U1d)
From Census, there is Nathaniel 1846, Adam 1847 and Isaac 1851. I have not tracked them further as they are not obvious in Census. I do find Adam in 1870, a blacksmith, married no kids. And Isaac was still living with his parents in 1880.
Parent-Proof notes for Sarah (Spouse 1)
