J L Floyd says this about John W: "John W Martz, son of Jacob and Rachel (Welker), was born 13 Aug 1834 in Upper Paxton where he lived until 1852 when he relocated to Lower Mahanoy Twp, North'd Co where he began the trade of tailor. In 1861 he came to Vera Cruz and tailored until 1906 then retired but continues as postmaster (village's postal name is Malta). On 29 Jan 1854, John married Mary Ann Witmer daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Phillips) and their children are: Sarah Ellen, William, Jeremiah P, Alice A, Peter L, Mary, Lizzie, Jonathan O, Rachel R, Jacob A and a son died in infancy."

Allen Tallman lists the same children except he has Mary and Lizzie as the same person.

John W is designated U1b2.

John W is on find-a-grave with his wife and seven children linked to him.

Curiously, John W was never listed (and named) as Jacob’s son in Census, by 1850 he had left his father’s household. He was living with Nicholas Lenker, a tailor, and I imagine was apprenticing his trade.
